D. C. Richardson and his son activated the oil business in Northwest Louisiana, in 1904 in the Caddo-Pine Island Field.

"The Caddo-Pine Island Field, located in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, was the first very large oil and gas field discovered in Louisiana... Numerous gas seeps had been noted in lakes in the north part of the parish as well as in shallow water wells... A young Oklahoma lumberman, D. C. Richardson, noting gas seeps in Caddo Lake near Moorsingsport, purchased oil and gas leases on lands east of the lake. He hired the Savage Brothers to bring their rotary rig up from the Spindletop field near Beaumont, Texas, to drill his wildcat well. In June 1904, drilling began on the initial test well, the Savage Brothers and Morrical No. 1, Section 1-T 20N-R16W, Caddo Parish, LA."
